Breeding bettas stops being luck once you understand the genotype behind the color.
Over 50 years of watching spawns, breeding pairs and patterns that forums never quite explained. Betta Project turns that experience into a method any breeder can apply.
What changes once you understand genotype
Crosses stop being trial and error. You start predicting the expected color and pattern ratios in each spawn, and documenting lines with a consistent notation.
One project, five commitments
Rescue concepts
Apply genetics concepts to betta breeding that the hobby usually overlooks.
Spread pedigree genetics
Give breeders the genetic understanding needed to produce pedigree bettas.
Bring breeders together
Promote real communication between serious betta breeders, in Brazil and abroad.
Judging criteria
Propose consistent criteria that genuinely add value to a breeder's work.
Vitor Chevitarese & Guilherme David
Vitor has studied betta genetics since 1978, analyzing breeding pairs and spawns for over five decades. Guilherme has kept bettas since 1992 and leads the project's content and strategy. They met on a betta discussion forum and founded the project together in 2010.
Our vision
To delight breeders through the selective breeding of bettas — raising the genetic quality of lines and spreading that knowledge to everyone who takes this fish seriously.
